Glen Helen again....So glen helen again. This week the track was rougher than previous which ment good line choice was crucial as it got pretty bumpy and rutty everywhere.. The days schedule looked like this for me. 2- 30 minute motos (open intermediate) 2- 20 minute motos (250 intermediate)
we got set off in the first 30 minute race pretty well, and i think i maybe pushed too hard in the opening laps as i made some mistakes mid race and nearly lost it a couple of times but i kept a decent pace and tried to keep going.. i succeeded and ended up 2nd in my group but i was tired towards the end.
The first 20 minute race i was beaten to the first turn by 2 ladies, WMA's sarah whitmore and katie mcguire.. so i passed whitmore on the second turn and chased on for the next few laps before i finally took the lead and had a little gap by the end taking the win.
The second 30 minuter was tough..as the the track was cut up and bumps left, right and centre it was hard to pick good lines, i felt good though and towards the end i felt exhausted, not liek previous weeks..( weather that means im going at a much better pace? or it was extremely hotter? or i wasnt in good enough shape?!) but never the less i kept going in both pulling away drasticly from 3rd place but being lapped by mike alessi and other in the process. another 2nd from here.
The final moto i was almost too tired to go to the start because you get one moto break then your out almost straight away. i started next to whitmore and she beat me to the first turn but i managed to get by into 2nd, then i got the other suzuki rider 3 laps into the race pulling away and winning comfortably.
Overall the day went well.. at the end i was in major tiredness but i thought i had another decent weekend considering i did around 100 minutes of pure racing.. thanks G-reg |

Greg joins pro class ! And gets a SECOND PLACE! (in his class)The second week of me racing the new bike went well. Setting off with the pro class again this time it was two 30 miniute motos, with the likes of Alessi and Brett Metcalfe riding. I also had another class to do which was two 20 minute motos so a good deal of racing throughout the day.
The pros set off on the fiirst gate then 30 seconds later they set us off behind them, I sat in 4th for much of the first 15 minutes of the race where I was battling with 2 other locals, then one of them stalled it. around a lap later i managed to get by this honda 450 and I think he dropped it so i had a pretty big lead on 3rd by the end to cruise to an easy second place. Team green rider dean wilson was the winner of that moto by some distance catching and passing a lot of the pro guys.
Race 2 was much of the same start but the 450 honda went down on lap one, then I managed to sneak by the ktm 450 around 10 minutes in.. So another easy 2nd and i felt really good doing 30 minutes and wasnt too tired.
The other class i came in 4th in both motos, not as good as the other group but still showed good speed. So i was happy with my performance on the day really...

Oh dear - greg is out riding again !! That must be a terrible drag ! This boy will be fast...Well this weekend at Glen Helen there were more pros than ever ( seen as the glen helen national is getting ever closer) there were some some fast guys wanting to get a taster of the track and build up some endurance for the first round of the AMA national.
So there i was lined up in moto one against daytona supercross heat winner Antonio Balbi, looking a little to my right there was Michael Lapaglia, Kyle Mace and Englands Adam Chatfield as well as other locals.
I was on my new race bike for the first time and made sure i was down there early to get an inside look on the first turn, even though my race would be scored differently i stil wanted to make some sort of impression on these guys, even if it was only for half a lap or so.. so Balbi is on the inside of me but i didnt feel too intimedated, instead i had richie (leech) sweeping my gate saying if you dont holeshot ill shove this broom up your a**e!!!!
So the gate dropped and i got off before balbi and cut infront of him and got a prety decent start (for me).. i was around 3rd going around the first turn with Lapaglia leading, then balbi nearly wiped me out on the second turn, then chatfield got around me also straight after.. so i was riding what i thought was my best for a few laps and chatfield caught me after crashing and i managed to hold him off for around half a lap then he got me. then so did kyle mace..but still i knew they would be faster so i wasnt too bothered, and i held onto them for maybe the remainder of the that lap then they gapped me a little bit.. On lap five i hit the deck around a sandy berm and that was pretty much it, i lost touch with everyone and lost rhythm.. settling for 4th in my group
Moto 2 saw Mike Alessi turn up out of the blue, then came his dad and girlfriend.. next thing you know mikes practising sections around the track whilst there is another race on, then he starts practising starts as well.. So there was much controversy on the starting gate but obviously he's a factory guy and the runners of the meeting were happy to have him there. ( but no-one else could really give 2 flyers) if thats not enough i stole his freshly sweeped gate.. so the race started and Alessi hit the Gate!!!!! :-) and i went around the first turn around 8th so all of the pros were pretty much ahead of me already. Alessi went on the win the race and i think i ended up 4th or 5th for my group again..
a fairly solid ish day i thought, i rode well, still a little more agression needed but slowly its coming together...

Perris Glen Helen - Our man in the US reports ....PERRIS-GLEN HELEN: As i talked about Glen Helen last week ill focus more on the Perris race this week. Glen helen went well, and put in 4 solid motos to grab 2nd in both the 250 intermediate and open intermediate. In the 3rd moto the heavens opened up and it rained, i loved it. Then ten minutes later it was blue sky again.. Ok Perris, although the turnout wasnt very impressive, the competitoon was good which made for really tight, aggressive racing. with only 5 laps per moto likle the loretta lynn qualifyer you needed a good start. and i got 4 'OKAY' starts. in the morning the track was really wet as it had lashed it down all night, so i couldnt wait to start the day as i love riding in the mud. Obviously then the sun came out and the track dried incredibly throughout the day but left big ruts and a tacky surface. i got off around 7th in moto one around turn two, the first lap wasnt really eventfull then i slowly picked off a couple of riders on laps 2 and 3 catching 4th place towards the end. (5th place) Moto 2: i got off well again and was running about 4th place staying with the leading group (most of which were half of sweden who came over for 3 weeks to get some training in before their national series) until i decked it on lap 2 after the finishline jump. That was the end of that only being 5 laps. (7th) Moto 3: Again a steady start, but not much action in this one at all, if anything i was passed by one or two guys, i rode good i thought but needed that little more fight to push more to the front.(I think i ended up 5th or 6th) Moto 4: This race was the fastest i had rode all day getting off to 2nd on the start, then i got passed twice by turn 2, i fought back and shot up the inside of one of the deep ruts and alomost took the lead, then i missed a gear going up the step up going back to 4th. i then fought back a lap later to 3rd, i was riding much faster in this one and actually was apart of the race for the win in some stage which was good for my confidence. on the same corner i missed another gear on lap 4 and was passed again, eventually finishing up 4th. MOTO 4 wasnt what i planned, i wanted to atleast be 2nd in this one as i had the speed in the first few laps. i need to still be a bit more aggressive, but my corner speed improved dramatically and i felt good. starts and aggression all around the track are just a couple of things in need to work on for the coming weeks. Thanks G-reg |
Greg in the US reports againGLEN HELEN: every week Glen Helen run saturday motocross named R.E.M. this is usually the only race we tend to do as there is usually a good turn out of riders each and every week. i recently stepped up to race intermadiate and this was my second week running this class. with a lot of guys from sweden come over to mx heaven there was some quick guys i would be racing in my group. so it made for good racing. the first race, we lined up with the pro class on the same gate but its scored differently, so the race was 25 minutes long. i rode a bit tight in the first moto and everyone pretty much stayed at an even pace and i got a little tired towards the end of the moto, i ended up 5th. then i went into 450 intermediate. i got off the gate pretty good and ran well in the first couple of laps about 5 laps in there was a pretty big crash at the bottom of one of the hills and they red flagged the race. but the results stood at that and i ended up 3rd. The second 250 moto was at the heat of the day and it was red hot, i never got the best of starts but i got a little lucky with a second turn pile up so i passed about 3 or 4 guys. The race was quite uneventfull and i got pretty good armpump about 3 laps before the end and salvaged 4th. For the final 450 moto, for some reason my head was booming and i think i was a little dehydrated even though id had a million bottles of water through the day. again a pretty unevenfull race, i chased this honda 450 al race but couldnt pass him. and the race pretty much stayed the same straight through. and i took 4th from there. OVERALL in both classes i took 4th, a pretty good day the first 2 motos were probably the best in terms of speed, but i cant complain the weather was scorching and i ran 4 motos so it was pretty hard work. still i need to work on being a bit more aggressive going into corners and coming out then i think it wil be better. a good day all in all so i was pretty satisfied. ( especially when i ordered my all american slam at Dennys restraunt afterwars) mmm G-reg |
